The story behind Moemoe

I’ve always believed that a good night’s sleep can change your whole day.

It sounds simple, but it was something I became increasingly aware of as I started paying more attention to what I was sleeping in every night.

I wanted bedding that was natural, beautifully made and genuinely suited to the New Zealand climate. I wanted something warm when it was cold, breathable when it wasn’t, made from natural fibres and, importantly, made here in New Zealand.

But when I started looking, I couldn't find it.

There were plenty of beautiful duvets and bedding brands, but very few that combined the things I cared about: natural materials, exceptional quality, New Zealand craftsmanship and a price that felt fair.

That was the beginning of Moemoe.

Why wool?

Living in New Zealand, wool felt like the obvious answer.

We have one of the world's great natural fibres literally on our doorstep. Wool is warm without being heavy, naturally breathable, incredibly durable and has an amazing ability to regulate temperature.

It made me wonder why we weren't making more of it.

So I started looking for the right people to help me create the bedding I wanted for my own home.

That search led me to an experienced New Zealand bedding manufacturer with more than 20 years' experience producing luxury bedding for markets around the world.

What started as a search for better bedding quickly became something much bigger.

Creating something better

Moemoe wasn't created because I wanted to launch another bedding brand.

It was created because I believed we could do bedding differently.

We wanted to use beautiful natural fibres, work with skilled New Zealand manufacturers and focus on making products that were genuinely better to sleep in — not simply better at selling.

Every detail matters.

From the quality of the wool and the cotton we use, to the way our duvets are quilted to help keep the filling evenly distributed. From creating different weights for different seasons, to making bedding that is designed to last.

And because we spend so much of our lives in bed, I believe what we sleep in deserves more thought than it often gets.

Why Moemoe?

The name Moemoe comes from the simple idea at the heart of everything we do: sleep.

But to me, it represents more than just sleep.

It represents slowing down. Coming home. Getting warm. Getting comfortable. That feeling of climbing into bed at the end of a long day and knowing you're exactly where you want to be.

It's about creating a better night's sleep naturally.

Made in New Zealand, with purpose

I'm incredibly proud that Moemoe is a New Zealand brand, and that we're able to work with people here who have decades of experience making exceptional bedding.

I also love the fact that we're taking something so quintessentially New Zealand — our wool — and turning it into something that can make a real difference to everyday life.

We're not interested in constantly creating more for the sake of creating more.

We're interested in creating better.

Better materials. Better craftsmanship. Better sleep.

And ultimately, products that you'll love using night after night, year after year.

Because I believe when you invest in your sleep, you don't just sleep better.
